The Real Meaning Behind Why Don't We's 'Fallin' (Adrenaline)'

Publish date: 2024-06-12

Why Don't We — comprised of band members Zach Herron, Jack Avery, Daniel Seavey, Corbyn Besson and Jonah Marais — explained the meaning behind their song "Fallin' (Adrenaline)" with Genius. "When you get into a relationship, you're jumping off a cliff, right?" Seavey said in November 2020. "Like you don't know how it's going to go. Maybe we'll just keep falling is basically just saying, like, hopefully this just keeps going and we never hit [the bottom]." Marais added, "It's almost just like sort of wishful thinking ... we'll jump and maybe we'll just keep falling in it" even though the group believes an end is sometimes "inevitable."

The track — which samples drums from Kanye West's "Black Skinhead" track, per Billboard – features lyrics like "Make me a promise, tell me you'll stay with me/ If I'm bein' honest, I don't know where this leads," and "Let's just fall in love for the hell of it/ Maybe we'll just keep fallin'."

According to Besson, Why Don't We's "Fallin' (Adrenaline)" "basically wrote itself." The singer also described the writing session as "crazy," telling People, "We started entirely from scratch and about 45 minutes later it was finished." He added, "We actually recorded about half of the vocals at Daniel's house due to the pandemic and after hearing the demo for the first time I remember feeling like 'oh s**t, this might be the song we've been waiting for.'″
