Reba McEntire on Staying Grounded After Jacqueline McEntire's Death
“Fancy” singer Reba McEntire is experiencing a lot of heartbreak. On Monday, March 16, she revealed her mother, Jacqueline McEntire, died two days before the 29th anniversary of a plane crash that killed her friends.
“The timing of Mama’s passing with that anniversary seems appropriate,” the redheaded beauty said via Instagram next to a throwback photo of her late pals. “I know they’re all in heaven together and taking care of each other. Let’s keep finding ways to take care of each other down here on earth and never take one moment with our loved ones for granted.”
On Saturday, March 14, Reba, 64, revealed her mother passed away from cancer at the age of 93. “Our Mother, Jacqueline McEntire, made that wonderful cross over into heaven today,” she said on Instagram. “She had a wonderful, full, healthy life and was absolutely ready to go. The cancer might think it won the battle but we’re giving God all the credit on selecting the time for her to go home to Him. She was ready to see our Daddy, her mama and daddy and all her family and friends.”
Sadly, after that post went live, the “Does He Love You” singer announced she’ll be postponing her mother’s funeral because of the coronavirus outbreak. “After much thought and careful consideration among our family, we have decided to indefinitely postpone mama’s funeral and burial at this time. We will continue to monitor the situation and let you know as soon as possible about future plans to celebrate her life when it is safe for everyone to attend. Thank you for all the calls, cards, thoughts and prayers for our family at this difficult time.”
Our hearts go out to Reba and her family. She and her mother were so close that Reba dedicated her 2019 song “You Never Gave Up on Me” to Jacqueline. “She cried. She was very appreciative,” the three-time Grammy Award winner told The Boot in May 2019 about her mom hearing the song. “She loved it.”
If there’s anything we can learn from Reba, it’s to always appreciate the people in your life.
