Hell of a benchwarmer, Jon Jones explains why he absolutely sucked at football unlike su
Jon Jones is a ‘freak of nature’ in the world of combat sports. The most-decorated UFC fighter was born into a family full of athletes. However, unlike him, his brothers are champions in football.
Jon Jones is not the only freak athlete in his family. His two brothers, Chandler, and Arthur Jones are both NFL pros with Super Bowl rings to their names. Before moving into martial arts, Jones sure did try his hand at football. Unfortunately (or fortunately) ‘Bones’ didn’t have the makings of an NFL player.
In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, ahead of his heavyweight debut, Jones talked about his footballing skills. “I absolutely sucked on the football field and was no good at all,” said Jones talking to TMZ. “I didn’t play until my senior year, was always on the team, but I never got to play,” continued Jones.
Jones jokingly said that he was one “hell of a benchwarmer” while he was on the team. Luckily Jones ‘lucked out’ with mixed martial arts as he went on to arguably become the greatest of all time. Jones might not be built for NFL but many MMA experts and fans alike believe he has the perfect build for a combat sports athlete.
Joe Rogan believes Jon Jones has the ‘perfect frame’ for fighting
The former light heavyweight champion has a record of 26-1 in his professional mixed martial arts career. He holds the record for being the youngest fighter to become champion in UFC and also the most title defenses. Joe Rogan, a long-time MMA commentator believes Jones is built perfectly for MMA.
“He has the perfect frame for fighting. He has muscle where he needs it. He’s got shoulders, he’s got arms, he’s got thighs, he doesn’t need his calves,” said Rogan in a podcast appearance. The commentator believes Jones is so perfect, it’s almost as if he was ‘designed in a lab’.
The legendary Jon Jones is all set to make a return to the octagon at UFC 285. The fight will take place next weekend at the T-Mobile Arena in Nevada. Jones will face Ciryl Gane for the vacant heavyweight title.
