Colt attended Jim Ned High School, where he played football and he was coached by his father. He achieved numerous honors during his time there and led the Texas Division 2A as the all-time leading passer. He also served as the team’s punter during his junior and senior year. He originally played as a free safety, but after a concussion he was no longer put in defense.

After matriculating, he attended the University of Texas at Austin, and played for the Texas Longhorns football team. He was a four year starter and shared as team MVP for those years. During his rookie season he did not play during their national championship run, but served as a quarterback for the scout team. During the 2006 season, he had to compete for the quarterback position and was successful, then leading the team to several wins and surpassing school records. However, during the Lone Star Showdown, McCoy was injured by a tackle which caused a severe pinched nerve in his neck, so he was side lined for more than a month, returning only in the 2006 Alamo Bowl.

In 2007 he was already considered one of the top players in college football, and was in contention for several awards such as the Manning and the Heisman Award. Later, however, he was criticized for having bad games, including numerous interceptions that cost his team the game. He would prove his critics wrong in the next season as he bounced back and produced his best performances so far. During his final season with the team, he led the Longhorns to a 12-0 record and became the most victorious quarterback in NCAA history.

McCoy joined the NFL Draft and was selected as the 85th overall pick by the Cleveland Browns – this was because many scouts believed that he lacked the necessary size to play in the NFL. He agreed to a four-year $5 million contract which boosted his net worth significantly. He was not meant to play during his first season, but due to injuries he was forced to start for the team, and led it to several upset victories before injuring his ankle. He became the starter for the Browns in 2011, but had several problematic games., and suffering a concussion after being hit helmet-to-helmet during one play. The following year, he played mostly as a backup to Brandon Weeden, but eventually started when Weeden was injured.

In 2013, Colt was traded to the San Francisco 49ers, but didn’t do much during the season. He signed with the Washington Redskins in 2014 and would start to showcase his quarterback skills. He re-signed with the Redskins the following season and was then offered a three-year contract extension which boosted his net worth once again.

For his personal life, in 2010 he married Rachel Glandorf who was a former Track and Field athlete at Baylor University. It is known that McCoy enjoys playing golf, fishing, and hunting. He’s also known to be active in charity events, helping with the Children’s Miracle Network telethon.
