Adam Devine Confirms Return To His Best Role
Adam Devine will reprise his role as Adam DeMamp in the upcoming Workaholics movie. The 39-year-old made the revelation while promoting his new Peacock series, Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin which spins out of the popular musicals. Speaking to MovieWeb, the actor said he has been finalizing the script with his friends and co-stars while preparing for pre-production.
After gushing about his Pitch Perfect series, Adam Devine said, “We’re doing the Workaholics movie in the spring for Paramount+. I just got off a phone call with the guys, Anders, Blake, and Kyle, and we’re putting the finishing touches on the last draft of that script.” The Modern Family alum added that everyone involved is really excited to get the project going. Filming is expected to begin in 2023.
The update from Adam Devine is encouraging for fans curious about the Workaholics boys’ fate, especially since the series finale ended on a beautiful, but slightly sad note. Instead of going big, the show returned to its roots, bringing the telemarketers back to where they started. Following some unhappy reactions from viewers, the star defended the story in the media.
In an interview with Cinema Blend, Devine said big event finales sort of take viewers away from what initially drew them to a show. “I think what really resonated with people with our show was that we did seem like friends because we were best friends,” Adam Devine told the publication about Workaholics. He explained that the characters talked like best friends. And he thought it would be really nice for them to “end up back on the roof.”
Created and written by Blake Anderson, Adam DeVine, Anders Holm, and Kyle Newacheck, Workaholics follows three friends who work together as telemarketers from 9 to 5, and live together from 5 to 9. The series debuted on Comedy Central in April 2011 and ran for 7 seasons before ending in March 2017. Jillian Bell, Maribeth Monroe, and Erik Griffin also star.
The first season received mixed reviews, with some critics describing the series as witty, irreverent, and joyously juvenile. The material, developed by Adam Devine, worked because the Workaholics guys are completely shameless, which makes them difficult to dislike. The premiere episode of the show’s second installment was the first to draw an audience of over 2 million.
The third season scored 2.11 in the Nielsen ratings, the third highest in the show’s history.
But the number of viewers began to decline soon after. Fortunately, Adam Devine’s Workaholics movie is said to revive the magic which made the series popular. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the made-for-streaming project will see the entire cast return. This includes Blake Anderson, Anders Holm, and Kyle Newacheck, alongside the Pitch Perfect actor.
Meanwhile, Adam Devine has been enjoying the success of Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin while working on the Workaholics script. Developed by Megan Amram and Elizabeth Banks, the series is based on characters created by Kay Cannon. The story follows Bumper who moves to Germany to revive his music career after one of his songs becomes a hit in the country. The series premiered on Peacock on November 23th.
